By creating a Second Quill account, installing the application, or using the website, you agree to these Terms of Use and our End User License Agreement (EULA) shown in the desktop app (Settings → About). Copyright © 2026 Second Quill. All rights reserved.
Accounts
You must provide a valid email address and choose a unique username. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure.
Device limit
Each account may register up to 3 devices by default. Purchased features and entitlements are tied to your account and registered devices — copying the application folder to another machine does not transfer your license. We may raise or lower your device limit at our discretion (e.g. for support or abuse prevention).
Offline use
After signing in, the desktop app may be used offline for up to 3 days since your last successful online check. Purchased content cached on a device remains available during this grace period. You must sign in again online to refresh entitlements.
Purchases & gifts
Store purchases are processed by our payment provider. Entitlements are granted to the purchasing account or, for gift purchases, to the recipient account associated with the gift email. Refunds follow the payment provider’s terms and our published refund policy.
Acceptable use
We may suspend or block accounts that abuse the service, attempt to circumvent device limits, share accounts unlawfully, or reverse-engineer license protections. You are responsible for how you use the Software and for content you create, publish, or distribute — including compliance with copyright, privacy, and applicable laws.
Your work & backups
Second Quill stores projects primarily on your devices. You are responsible for backing up your manuscripts (exports, copies, or other backups). We are not liable for lost, corrupted, or deleted work, whether caused by device failure, user error, updates, third-party services, or other causes.
AI & third-party services
AI, speech, payment, and hosting features may use third-party providers. We do not guarantee the accuracy, originality, or legality of AI-generated text. You use those services at your own risk and subject to their terms.
No guarantee of publication or outcomes
The Software is a writing tool only. We do not guarantee publication, commercial success, or any particular creative or business outcome from using the app or its prompts and AI features.
Offline grace for purchases
After you sign in online, paid content you have downloaded may remain usable offline for up to 3 days. If that period ends without a new online sign-in, paid features are paused (not deleted) until you connect and refresh your account. Free-tier features continue to work.
Disclaimer & no liability
You use the Software at your own risk and are solely responsible for your work, publications, and compliance with law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Software is provided “as is” without warranties, and Second Quill is not liable for any damages or losses of any kind arising from your use of the Software — including lost data, lost profits, failed publication, or reliance on AI output — except where liability cannot be excluded under mandatory law.
Indemnity
If a third party claims against Second Quill because of your content or conduct, you agree to hold Second Quill harmless from that claim to the extent permitted by law.
